Brussels, 27 September 2011 – Good news for the European construction products industry: the standardisation of Environmental Product Declarations is underway. At a meeting in Brussels on 26 September 2011, the EPD programmes from Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and Spain signed a "Memorandum of Understanding" to establish a European EPD Platform, called “ECO”. The ECO Platform aims to initiate the development of a uniform European core EPD. The basis for this is the technically finalised work on environmental standards produced by the European Standardisation Committee (CEN/TC 350) as part of the standardised methods for assessing the sustainability of buildings. Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding also include numerous national Green Building Councils. European standards governing the sustainability of buildings require the construction material EPDs to be applied for evaluating ecological building quality during building certification. |
